STAGE 1:

GETTING PATENT PENDING

This is where you get patent pending by getting a world-class patent search (Step 1), and then filing a provisional patent application (step 2) to get patent pending for what comes back clear from the search.

STAGE 2:

BUILD, DEVELOP, PATENT

STAGE 2 is the true world of 'Invention Development'. It starts with you building the first basic version of your invention, called a Proof of Principle (Step 3). If all goes well, you then have the opportunity to file a non-provisional patent application and get your patent allowed at Lightspeed in the LIGHTSPEED™ Patent Package (Step 4). Then it's onto Product Design (Step 5), where your product (depending on whether it's a consumer product) may be designed in high quality 3D graphics. The idea of the Product Design step is to realize the final product design, just as your product will appear on the shop shelves. Then it's time to convert that product design into a final prototype (Step 6). This prototype will become the focus of your Trailer Video, which will be used to crowdfund and/or license your invention.

STAGE 3:

THE ROAD HOME

STAGE 3 is the road home to Success with your invention, but there's still a lot of work to do. It starts with isolating the market (or niche market) that has the absolute most need and desire for your product (Step 7). Once you've isolated your market, the next step is to create an explainer video of your invention, featuring footage of your prototype from Step 6. This video is called a Trailer Video (Step 8), and is professional scripted and storyboarded. It may also include professional voice talent and background music. Your Trailer Video then forms the basis of your main video as part of the Crowdfunding Package (Step 9), which gets your invention on Kickstarter or IndieGogo. Your Traielr Video is also pivotal in licensing your invention (Step 10), if that is your intended route to Invention Success.
